Hello, It's Anna!

Today I want to share a modern English phrase that is especially popular on social media. It's the phrase "no cap," which simply means, "no lies," or "honestly." It is used casually to express that something interesting, perhaps hard to believe, is real. But figuring out where the phrase comes from is another, more formal language lesson.

In business, we use the word "cap" (キャップ制) to talk about the maximum amount of money a worker can earn. This is usually in industries where people are paid on commission (支払手数料), so that they cannot get an unlimited amount of money- there is a maximum amount that they can be capped at. But sometimes, in some jobs or companies, you could have no cap - no matter what your work is, if you earn a large amount of money, you will get it! Professional athletes are a good example; there is no maximum limit on their pay, so they have no cap on their earnings. On the other hand, most salary jobs are capped within a certain range.

If you have a job with no cap, it sounds very nice, but also a little bit unbelievable. So, young Americans have come up with the phrase "no cap" to show that they are speaking truthfully, in any situation.

Here are some examples of how people could use "no cap", especially on social media:

"I got baseball tickets at work today - right behind home plate - for free - no cap!"

"Look at this video. No cap, it's the funniest thing I've seen today."

So, this is an interesting phrase, because can use it literally to discuss a business or salary term, but also as an idiom to describe something very unbelievable!

That's all for today, check in again later for more English! J

ちなみにNo capは、カジュアルな場面で使うことが多いようです!

この意味としては、本当のこと信じがたい出来事が起こったりするときなどに

使うこともあるようですよ!

また、ビジネスシチュエーションでは、capという単語を使うようです。

この意味としては、リミットがないという意味になるようです。

ビジネスでお金を稼ぐときに手数料などがあるのでMaxまで稼ぐことができないことが多いと思います。

なので、No capの会社があるすごいね!でもそういう会社があったら信じられないけどと

Ana先生は言っていました!

先生が、カジュアルな場面で使えるフレーズの例を書いてくれました!

ビジネスシチュエーションではどういう風に使えるか聞いてみたら

There's a cap on how much you can spend on the company credit card.

ー会社のクレジットカードは、いくらまで費やせるのか?

という意味になるようです!

ぜひ使ってみて下さいね!
