Christmas is coming～
You may be surprised to hear it is not customary to eat things like fried chicken and Christmas cake on Christmas day. Instead, savory foods such as turkey, ham, and stuffing, and treats like cookies, candy, and fudge can be found in our kitchens! We also often drink eggnog, a sweet, creamy milk-like beverage topped with nutmeg. It's absolutely delicious!
Another difference is the fact that Christmas day in the United States is typically a holiday meant to be spent with family. People will stay at home, opening presents in the morning and then eating dinner together in the evening. Many stores and businesses shut down to allow people to spend the day with their loved ones.
It sounds quite different from Japan's Christmas, doesn't it! This year, why not try baking some delicious gingerbread cookies or opening some presents on Christmas morning? You might find American traditions to be fun!
Merry Christmas, everyone! ☆
