Isaiah 先生の ”I find interesting！”
Hello everyone, this is Isaiah! Today,
I will talk to you about Japanese New Year's traditions
that I find interesting. In my opinion,
the two most interesting Japanese New Year's traditions
are Otoshidama and Osouji.
Otoshidama is interesting to me
because in America, money is usually only given to children on their birthdays or
as a substitute for a Christmas gift.
I was surprised to learn that it is a tradition
in Japan to give children money at the beginning of the New Year.
I wish that had been a tradition in America when I was a kid!
Osouji is interesting to me because it is done during winter vacation!
Most people hate doing chores or any type of housework during their days off,
especially if it is a long weekend or extra time off of work.
I can't imagine anyone in America cleaning during a vacation week.
Americans usually do their big yearly cleaning in the spring. We call it 'Spring Cleaning.'
