Q. What is your best memory of golden week in Japan?
During Golden Week of 2019, my mom visited Japan and we went to Hakone for the first time. I had heard a lot about Hakone from students, so I wanted to experience it for myself.
My mom rented a car and we drove down and stayed there for four days, three nights. It was my first time to stay at a traditional ryokan, in which I experienced an outdoor onsen in the rain (which was AMAZING), kaiseki ryori, and local junmai and daiginjo nihonshu.
My mom and I went to the famed Owakudani volcano and ate kurotamago - it didn't taste any different from regular eggs, but if the legend is true, I added 35 years to my life. We also went down to Motohakone and hiked around some local shrines.
It was an amazing window and introduction to local Japanese hotspots and culture (aside from Kyoto and Tokyo). I would love to go again and explore more sometime in the future!
We hope to see you soon (^^)/
