Hello everyone,

After spending a lot of time at home during Tokyo's lockdown, I was feeling a little unhealthy.

Recently, I decided I would try to start running to improve my fitness and health. I was of course interested in the physical benefits of running, but also, I read that running can have a lot of mental benefits too.


So far, I've been enjoying it! I am using a training program called "Couch to 5K". It is a 9 week course designed to help beginner runners go from little to no exercise, to being able to run 5k without stopping after nine weeks. The course starts with three runs a week and uses intervals to slowly break you in.

For example, week one has you run for a minute and then walk for 90 seconds for a total of seven times. Every week the run time increases and by week nine, the idea is that you should be able to run for twenty minutes without stopping. I also recently bought a bike so I have been going out for a ride a few times a week too. I'm already feeling a little better!
