Some of you already know this, but my brother had been staying with me in Japan until just recently. Some of you even got to meet him! His name is Oliver, he’ll be turning 20 this year and he is currently a university student studying in Brisbane, Australia.
As his older brother and as his host, I wanted to show him what omotenashi was all about. I showed him lots of Japanese food, introduced him to my friends and took him to different famous places. Though I never asked him directly, he seemed to really enjoy himself with all the activities we did together. Oliver has expressed several times that he would like to return to Japan in the near future. He had briefly studied Japanese in the past, but has decided now to pursue it more seriously.
Though he’s gone back to school now, hopefully you all could get another chance to meet him again soon! Do any of you have family members living in faraway places? How often do you see them these days? Can they speak any other languages well? Thanks for reading about my brother, Oliver. Stay tuned!
