【Matt's blog】Driving in the Snow
Winter is known for many things,
especially the winter weather.
Depending on where you live,
the first thing you might think about
is snow. In most of America people
drive instead of taking trains,
so driving in the snow is a necessary
evil for many people.
Driving in the snow can be dangerous,
but there are things we can do
to make it safer.
First, many cities will plow streets
frequently, and also use salt and sand
to improve traction. These can be
very helpful, but salt may damage the
car or paintjob.
Second some people will use chains
on their tires. This is also very
effective. It may sound difficult to put
the chains on, but these days it's quite
easy. With many chains you can simply
drive over the chains and attach them.
Third, if your car is stick
(manual transmission), you will have
greater control of the vehicle.
By downshifting, you can avoid
hitting the brakes as often.
Hitting the brakes can often
cause the car to slip or skid out.
Driving in the snow can be dangerous,
but as you can see, people can do
many things to make it safer. Be careful!
