Hi everyone, it's Kenn here.
Last week, I got an amazing opportunity to attend a workshop teaching me how to play the shamisen! I had never touched one before then, so I was very excited to give it a try. It was a lot smaller than I imagined and for me, it was pretty easy to get used to the techniques the lovely teacher taught us.
For me, the most difficult thing about the whole workshop was actually staying in seiza position throughout the whole day. I had so much trouble standing up after each practice... But the sounds coming from everyone's shamisen were so relaxing that I sometimes didn't even realize my legs had lost their feeling.
I heard that even many Japanese people have never touched or played a shamisen before, so I felt very special that I was offered a chance such as this one. I don't know if anything like this will be possible again for the rest of my life, so I was really trying my best during that workshop. I would love to do it again though!
Would you like to try playing shamisen too? What about other Japanese instruments? Let me know the next time you talk to me. Thanks for reading as always, and stay tuned!
