How to use O.K.

The word O.K., okay, OK, however you want
to spell it, is apparently the most used
word around the world.

It is extremely useful - there are many
ways to use it and it has a few different
meanings.

Let's have a look in detail in this blog.

Here are some misuses
I hear from my students:

Teacher: Do you have any questions?

Student: OK. X
(OK here means yes, meaning
you do have a question.)

You should say
- I'm OK. This means that
you don't need to ask a question.

Anything OK. X Anything is OK.

Here are some ways you can use OK:

As an adjective

OK can mean acceptable

I fixed the problem so your car
is OK now.

OK can mean mediocre
(not good / not bad)

The fries were great, but the
burger was just OK.

It can be an adverb

How was my skiing?

You did OK for your first time

As a noun

It can mean permission.

The boss gave me the OK to
send out the new brochures.

As a verb

It can also mean give permission.

The boss OKed the order.

And finally

A-Okay!

This is a stronger version of OK.
It means that everything is good.
