Business English Phrases
Hello everyone! The end of May is here! Did you have a successful month?
Today, let's improve your business English with some simple phrases.
1. "What is your name?" is often used, but actually it can sound too aggressive. You may want to ask, "Could/May I have your name, please?"
『What is your name? Could/May I have your name, please?"
2. "I am waiting for your reply" is also commonly used, but this is unnatural English. It sounds like you do not want to wait any longer. From now on, let's use "I look forward to hearing from you."
『I am waiting for your reply』もよく使われますが、不自然な英語です。 I look forward to hearing from you."
3. When meeting a client, you should never say "Please sit" because it sounds very cold. You can say "(Please) have a seat" or "(Please) make yourself comfortable." These phrases sound more welcoming.
"(Please) have a seat" もしくは "(Please) make yourself comfortable."
