Hero or Heroine?
Hello everyone! This is Linda-sensei!
Recently in one of my classes my student asked if only men could be called a hero. Technically the word hero does imply that we are talking about a man and heroine would be the word we use to describe a woman, but we also use "hero" very generally to describe anyone we admire or look up to. For this reason, we can also say, for example, that my mother is my hero because we are using it as a more general term.
However, if we are describing a specific character in a book or story,
who is usually the main character, we would say he is the hero, or she is the heroine of the story.
I hope you all have a fantastic day!
Linda
