I have a big family!
Hello everyone! This is Linda-sensei!
Today I want to talk about what it`s like to have a big family. As you all know, I have a twin, but in total there are 9 kids in my family. In my culture it is very common to have big families. For example, my mom`s sister, my aunt, has 14 children. My mom`s family only has 5 kids but my dad`s family has 12 kids. It`s still too early for me to decide but I do not plan to have a big family.
Growing up in a large family is very different from a smaller family. I learned from a very young age about sharing clothes and food with my siblings and that nothing is truly ever yours unless you buy it with your own money, which my parents made clear to all of my siblings and me. I don`t remember being very sick but with so many children in one small house with only one bathroom and three bedrooms, there was a lot of germs being passed around. My parents had a difficult time getting everyone to behave and do the same thing but luckily we had a big front yard, where we could play for hours.
I`d say the best part about having a big family is that you`re never bored or alone. The worst part was that you never have time for yourself which can cause a lot of stress. Luckily for me I was able to join sports teams in high school. Something else you learn is the idea of "first come, first serve" which means whoever gets there first gets to have one. For my family it means, my mom is only going to make enough food for 9 or 11 people but she isn`t going to save food, so whoever gets to the kitchen first gets the most food. If someone doesn`t get food then they have to make their own food. All in all, its really nice to have a big family but it`s also very competitive.
I hope you all have a great day! Thank you for reading my post!
