Dear readers,

Today I'd like to talk about the time I visited Australia. One of my friends from high school, Wes, moved there several years ago. I traveled there with several of my other friends to celebrate his wedding. He married another of our good friends, Andrea. It was a great trip!

After spending all day in airports and airplanes, we arrived in Brisbane. We called an Uber to take us the rest of the way to Wes and Andrea's apartment, and all but collapsed once we got there. After a quick night's rest, we had a full schedule for the rest of the week!

Step 1 was Wes's bachelor party. It was a pretty lowkey affair, involving dinner at a restaurant near the train station before going into downtown Brisbane to check out a few bars. We visited a specialty shot bar called Viscosity, which was very cool. The shots they make use ingredients of different densities to create edible art. It tastes as good as it looks!

After that was the wedding, which was one of the nicest weddings I've ever attended. It took place in a park along the Brisbane River. The ceremony was very nice and Wes started crying as soon as he saw his bride. After that was the reception, with plenty of beer and cocktails to go around! As the sun started to set there were beautiful skyline views that reflected on the river. It was a great night.

With the wedding out of the way, we were in full vacation mode. We took a day trip down to the Gold Coast and relaxed on the beach. We visited the Australia Zoo and saw kangaroos, koalas, and crocodiles. And we spent three days on Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island. There were several other tour groups on the island with us, and one night got especially rowdy. Be careful when you challenge a bunch of Wisconsinites to drinking games!

Overall, the trip was an incredibly good time spent with some of my closest friends. I can't wait to go back and visit Wes and Andrea again soon! The flights from Japan are much shorter than from America, too!
