Can you believe we are already in December?

This month is really special to me because not only

is there Christmas and New Years, but there is also

my name day. A name day is a tradition in many

European countries, where we celebrate a famous

saint who has the same name as you.

St. Nicolas Day is on December 6th because that is

the day the famous Christian saint from Greece past away.

He was famous for secretly giving gifts to not only children

but people in need. Today we all know Santa Claus, who is

based on St Nicolas' name and his acts of kindness.

もう１２月になりましたね！

僕にとって今月は特別な月です。

というのも、クリスマスやお正月があるだけでなく、

僕の聖名祝日があるからです。

この休日はキリストの聖人と同じ名前の人を対象に

祝うというヨーロッパでよく行われる伝統な習慣です。

聖ニコラスの日は12月６日です。

有名なギリシャ出身のキリスト教徒が

亡くなった日であるため、今でも祝われています。

彼が有名な理由は子供や貧しい人々に

プレゼントを渡していたということです。

現代ではサンタクロースがとても有名ですが、

実はサンタは聖ニコラスの名前と

彼が行った慈善活動が由来と言われています。
