「文化の日」を英語でいうとそのままCulture Dayです。

休日は英語でnational hoiidayです。

Why is it a holiday? と聞かれたら、

The post-war Japanese constitution

was officially adopted on November 3, 1946.

と答えるといいと思います。

ちなみに、November.3は3rdと書かれていなくても

序数のthirdと読んでください。

一緒に覚えると良いのが「憲法記念日」ですね。

文化の日＝announcement of the constitution （法の公布）

憲法記念日＝enactment of the constitution. （法の制定・施行）

となります。これは日本語でも少し難しい。

文部科学省は、文化の日がある11月1日から7日までを

教育文化週間と定めて色々なイベントを実施しています。

During this week, museums promote culture, art exihitions.

And award ceremonies are held for artists and scholars.

By the way, the Culture Day falls on Tuesday this year,

so most teachers in Shinagawa have 3-day-weekend.

(since most of them have Mondays off)

Please ask them what they did when you see them at the lobby.
