Hello! This is Brendan.

How are you?

This month, many high schools and colleges

will celebrate a special event called Homecoming.

Maybe you've heard of a Homecoming dance, or a Homecoming game.

But what is Homecoming?

I'll tell you today!

Homecoming is a special event where former students are invited to come back to their old schools.

The English word meaning former students is "alumni".

During Homecoming many alumni return to their old schools to meet with their old classmates and teachers.

Most schools have a celebration during an American Football game.

If the school doesn't have a football team, they will celebrate with a different sport.

It's called "Homecoming" because alumni are supposed to come back home!

After the Homecoming football game there is usually a big dance.

In school we called the dance "Homecoming".

Boys will usually ask girls to be their dates to the dance.

They'll ask "Will you go to homecoming with me?".

At the dance all of the students will vote for the Homecoming Queen and the Homecoming King.

These are usually the two most popular students in the school.

Homecoming is a very exciting time for many students!
