Hi there! How are you recently?
I hope you're finding activities to do at home!
Now we're not going out, it's a shame that we can't
go to restaurants with friends! I miss restaurants a lot.
However, staying at home is a good chance to practicecooking!
Did you cook more recently?
I'm definitely cookingmore!
I've tried many recipes. I recently got a blender,
so I can make a lot of soups! I made kabocha soup, gobo
(burdock root) soup, carrot soup, and many others!
In the UK I use the oven a lot. I also use a lot of bell
peppers and tomatoes in cooking.
But in Japan, I don't have an oven and some vegetables are expensive!
So I had to change my cooking style.
It's cheaper to use Japanese ingredients and make Japanese dishes.
In winter I like to make nabe, gratin (in the toaster), and other comforting
dishes. One of my favourites is buri daikon!
I love the warm taste with ginger.
In the summer, I like to cook nasu (eggplant) often!
It's my favourite vegetable.
I cook it Japanese style with dashi, soy sauce, mirin, cooking sake and sugar.
I also like cold soba in the summer months.
At the moment, baking is really popular and many people
post pictures of their bread or cakes online.
I wanted to try cake too, but I don't have an oven.
I decided to try making cakes in my rice cooker, and it was successful!
I made a rice cooker banana cake and this weekend I'm going to try
cheesecake!
Have you ever made cake in the rice cooker?
If not, you should try it!
If you have a good recipe, let me know!
I'm still learning Japanese cooking so any advice is useful.
Have a nice week! I hope my blog didn't make you hungry!
Best wishes,
Sarah
