Introduction to Baseball
During the break, I went to my first baseball game ever! It was very different from what I expected. I have never been to a baseball game in Australia (it’s not very popular there) so I compared it a lot to an AFL game.
AFL games in Australia are very, VERY loud. People are always cheering their team or even the other team when they do something great. Usually the cheering is positive but sometimes it sounds kind of aggressive. For example “RUN FASTER!! ARE YOU SLEEPING?” At the Baseball game, everyone cheered for the home team but were silent for the other team. I felt kind of bad for the visiting team so I clapped when both teams did well.
I was really interested in the different cheers too. Every player had a different cheer and most people joined in but nobody was screaming the cheers, they said them very quietly. This was very strange for me. At an AFL game, there aren’t so many cheers but people sing the club song as loud as they can.
I really miss the atmosphere of AFL but it’s only played in Australia so I can’t watch it here. Do you have a favourite sport or team? I’d love to learn more about it!
