New Year in England
Hi everyone! Jessica here.
I hope you all had a good Christmas! Christmas is a really important holiday in England.
Everyone gets together with their family, exchanges presents, and has a meal together.
It's my favorite holiday!
In Japan, New Year is for spending time with your family, right?
In England, New Year is a party!
We count down to midnight with our friends or family at a party, and then at midnight we drink champagne and shout "Cheers! Happy New Year!"
We also sing Aude Lang Syne, which you have heard here in Japan - it's the closing time song in shops!
In England, it's just the New Year song.
We also have fireworks at midnight.
That's why fireworks are always a winter activity for me, even though in Japan they are usually in summer.
This year, I'm visiting my friends in California for New Year.
We're going to a big party on the 31st, so I'm really excited!
Please tell me all about what you did for New Year when I see you next time!
