皆様、お家でのんびりされたり、帰省されたり

旅行に行かれている方もいらっしゃるのではないでしょうか。

今回のスクールブログは、お正月をどうお祝いするか

アメリカと日本ではどう違うのでしょうか！？

Hello, everyone! It's Ian at Toyosu.

It's hard to believe that it is almost 2020. This year has gone by so quickly! In just a couple days, we will be ringing in the New Year!

Today, I'd like to talk about some differences between Japan and America about how we celebrate New Years's. One big difference is New Year's cards. In Japan, it is customary to write and send New Year's cards to your friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. However, in America we do not send cards for New Year's. Instead, we typically send cards for the winter holidays such as Christmas.

Another difference is in New Year's greetings. In Japan, you have a different greeting depending on if it is before or after New Year's Eve. If it is on or before December 31^st, you will say よいお年を. If it is on or after January 1^st, you say あけましておめでとうございます. In America, we only have one greeting, "Happy New Year," which we can use at any time before or after New Year's Day.

There are other big differences in how we celebrate New Year's. In Japan, people get together on New Year's Day to eat おせち with their family. They also go to a shrine for 初詣. In America, people typically have the day off from work and school on New Year's Day. Many people enjoy staying home and watching a parade or sports game on TV.

日本では、年賀状を同僚や親せき、お友達に送りますよね！

アメリカでは、お正月に年賀状のようなカードは送らないようです。

その代わりにクリスマスなどにカードを渡すようです！

日本だと逆にクリスマスカードを渡す方が少ないかもしれないですよね！

最近は、可愛いカードがあるのでお友達に渡す方も増えていますよね！

また、お正月前には「よいお年を」と言ったりお正月を迎えたら「あけましておめでとうございます」

と言いますよね！それも日本の文化です！

この他に家族でおせち料理を食べたりするのが日本の文化でもありますよね。

また初詣に行く方も多いのではないでしょうか。

アメリカでは、お仕事や学校も休みなので家でのんびり過ごす方が多いようですよ！

TVを見たりパレードを見たりするようです！

たくさんの違いがあるお正月！
