Hi everyone,
Today, I would like to share with you guys
some terms you can use for talking about
money in North America
(Canada and the US).
In Canada, we have different terms
for the amount in coins.
For example,
5cents - a nickel
10cents - a dime
25cents - a quarter
1 dollar - a loonie
2 dollars - a toonie
5 dollars - a fiver
(Loonie and Toonie is only in Canada
since the US does not have
one or two dollar coins).
For general terms for both
Canada and America,
you can use the term bucks
(meaning dollars)
i.e. a buck = $1, 5 bucks =$5, 100 bucks =$100. For $100,
you can also use the term - bills i.e. 1 bill ($100), 5 bills ($500).
In a casual setting,
people can also use the term -
cheddar or bread,
when talking about money
i.e. She's making a lot of bread =
She's making a lot of money
If you have any questions,
please feel free to let me know!
Oscar
