『和製英語』についてご紹介します★　

教えてくれたものの中には気づかず実際に

使っていたものもあって...(^_^;)　

これからはもっと意識して英語を話したいと

Hello everyone,

I have some recommendations regarding
English and Katakana words!
I hope you find these useful and remember
that if you know a katakana word,
there is a chance it is not used the same way
in English! 　

Some Japanese words I commonly hear are:　

■マグカップ　
In English this is simply a "mug",
and カップ is simply a "cup"　

■チャレンジしたい
　We use "challenge" as a verb
when we want to compete, like in sports.
In all other cases it sounds better to use
"try" - "I want to try a new hobby"　

■フットワークが軽い

This does not translate perfectly
and it's better to say someone
is "adaptable".　

■テンションが上がる
Tension in English translates to 緊張 and
is considered a negative emotion,
opposite from the Japanese meaning.
It is better to say "I'm excited!"　

If you know a word that is both katakana
and hiragana (e.g. テンションが上がる )
then it is usually a Japanese word.　

Please keep this in mind and don't hesitate
to ask about a word if you have questions!
