It's only been 3 months into this unique year and it seems like the entire world is getting turned upside down. Under such unpredictable and unstable circumstances, there's not much we can do; and yet, there's also a lot we can do, even though we have to #stayathome a lot more until the situation improves. Social distancing can be tough but if there's one thing we can be grateful for, it's the internet - by which we can still enjoy so many of the things our world has to offer. With that said, I'd like to suggest a few ways to take advantage of today's online world in order to continue improving your English skills. Chances are, none of this will be extraordinarily new to you but sometimes it helps to have a friendly reminder.

One way to enjoy our time at home is to enjoy video-on-demand or online streaming services. Unfortunately, due to legal circumstances, I can't mention the actual names of any of these services but hopefully you know what I'm referring to. I personally subscribe to one of these services and have been able to enjoy lots of movies and television programs from the comfort of my own home. And I've actually been very impressed by what's available with subtitles as well. Whenever AEON has a regular break period, like Golden Week or Oshougatsu, I always recommend enjoying the break by at least watching a movie or two in English because routine exposure to a foreign language is extremely important for fluency. So why not take advantage of any extra time spent at home these days by enjoying some streaming while also improving your English?

Another way to enjoy our time at home is through the wealth of online apps available to us. These days, apps are fundamental aspects to our everyday lives and they keep getting better and better. The overwhelming majority of us use apps for all sorts of things and I especially recommend taking advantage of the language apps available these days. The first app I have to recommend, obviously, is AEON Net Campus. As you may know, it is being constantly improved and currently has a wealth of useful functions to help with your English. Hopefully, you already use it consistently and might like to use some other apps as well. Again, unfortunately, I can't mention actual names but there are some really fun and useful apps that are actually based on improving language skills, some of which you can interact with people from around the world with and possibly make some new friends. Please do be careful though, as the online world does have its risks and potential dangers.

If you've gotten this far in this blog, let me thank you and congratulate you for getting through some of the tougher words I've used. There's just one more thing I want to say, in light of the circumstances we face. We're all going through especially stressful times right now, especially because of the insecurity and dangers we are now exposed to. This unique stress can lead to all sorts of awful things like frustration, depression, anxiety and even anger. Compounded with the need to maintain some forms of social distancing, the whole thing can be alienating and discouraging. Please try to remember though that you're not alone and we're all going through this - some of us, in worse cases than others. It may be a fact that we all need each other to be socially cooperative and considerate more than we ever have before. Through all of this, please try to keep your head high and your hopes up. We can get through this and hopefully, things will be back to normal sooner than later.
