I have been teaching at Yurakucho school for a while but I only come to Yurakucho on Mondays. So, I wanted to tell you a little bit about myself, and hopefully we will have a chance to meet in the future.
I came to Japan more than 8 years ago, and I've been working in Japan for the same amount of time. I'm from a very small town in the South West of England. It's a very beautiful place. Some of you might have been to the area - Have you ever heard of Bath, or Stonehenge? They are pretty famous historical places near my hometown and they are very popular for tourists. It's near the Cottswolds too, so if you have a chance to go to England, I recommend you visit the area. If you want some more information just let me know!
I'm going to England next week for my summer holiday! I'm going to spend 2 weeks there visiting friends and family and having fun with my kids. So, let me tell you a little bit about summer in the UK.
We have a lot of summer festivals in the UK, but they are completely different from the festivals in Japan. Summer festivals in the UK are outdoor music festivals that are usually held in the countryside. A lot of people camp for a few days and watch famous bands and artists perform. It's a lot of fun; the atmosphere is really exciting and you can see a lot of famous musicians in one weekend. Although, if the weather is bad, being outdoors can be a bit troublesome.
My hometown is really small, so there are no music festivals, but there is a duck race! People all drop a plastic yellow duck into the river from a bridge. The ducks race down the river to the finish line where they are collected. The person whose is the first to cross the finish line is the winner and they get some money. Of course there is a pub at the start and finish line so it is a good opportunity for drinking.
As I said, please let me know if you are going to the UK and I can give you some advice about where to go. And, I hope you all enjoy your summer vacation.
