Dear readers,
November 26th was the last Thursday in November, which marks the national holiday of Thanksgiving in America. Many Americans spend Thanksgiving eating lots of delicious food with family and friends. It also acts as the beginning of the "holiday season." Because of this, it's one of my favorite holidays.
Thanksgiving is celebrated in many countries, such as Canada and Brazil. The original purpose was to give thanks for the blessing of the harvest and the previous year. Nowadays the harvest schedule doesn't really affect most people's everyday lives, but we still use the day to share what we are thankful for and gather with family and friends. It was originally a religious holiday, but today it is celebrated as a secular holiday as well.
My memories of Thanksgiving include exorbitant amounts of turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Thanksgiving dinner is a special time for many families, and some classic side dishes include stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie (with lots of whipped cream!). In recent years, my friends and I had also been participating in "Friendsgiving," the "friend" version of the holiday. We would all gather at a friend's house, each person bringing a dish or drink to share, and eat far more food than we should.
I hope you enjoyed learning a bit about the American Thanksgiving! If you'd like to know more, please ask me next time you see me in the lobby! Next time, I'll introduce another interesting channel on YouTube Corner! Look forward to it!
