今日のテーマは最近見た日本のドラマや本について！

Dear Readers,

Learning a foreign language is quite difficult, and takes a lot of time. One of the first things I advise my students to do is start reading or watching things in English. It is a great way to find lots of grammar examples, learn new vocabulary, practice your listening skills, and to acquire the language at a deeper level. But as they say, practice what you preach. So to encourage more people to read books or watch movies and TV shows in English, I'd like to share some of the books, movies, and TV shows I have been enjoying in Japanese.

The first is a manga series called In/Spectre, or 虚構推理. It was originally a novel series and also has an anime adaptation. During winter vacation, I read one volume per day for an entire week! It is primarily a mystery, but also heavily features different youkai and other supernatural elements. The main character often has to come up with logical, believable explanations for supernatural occurrences, which is always fun to read. I highly recommend it.

A TV show I've been enjoying recently is 時効警察. The main character is a police officer who starts to investigate cases after the statute of limitations expires, just as a hobby. It's another mystery story, but instead of asking "whodunit" the question is moreso "why" or "how." The show is also very funny, with silly things happening for seemingly no reason. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm looking forward to the rest.

Another drama I was watching was He Who Can't Marry, or 結婚できない男. I watched the entire first season and quite liked it, so I was interested when I saw that a second season was coming out. I liked seeing how things have changed for the characters since the first season. But for some reason I'm just not enjoying it as much this time around, so I decided to drop it. Here's an important lesson: if you're not enjoying something, don't force yourself to read/watch it!

外国語を学ぶことはとても難しくて、時間がかかりますよね。私から生徒さんによくアドバイスすることは、英語で読んだり見たりすることです。正しい文法・語彙はもちろん、リスニングの練習にもなりますよね。今日は皆さんに前向きに英語学習にトライしていただけるよう、私が今楽しんでいる日本語学習についてシェアしますね！

1つ目は漫画『虚構推理』です。元は小説から作られたものです。冬休みの間、毎日1巻ずつ読みました！ベースは推理ですが、妖怪でてきたり、超常現象的な話も交えられています。主人公は論理的で、説得力があるので、読んでいてとても面白かったです。とってもおすすめです！

2つ目はTVドラマ『時効警察』です。主人公は、時効が成立した事件を"趣味"で捜査する警察官です。これもまたミステリーですが、「誰がやったのか」を尋ねるのではなく、「なぜ」「どうやって」を突き詰めていきます。すごくバカバカしくて笑えるところがいいんです。全部見終わっていないので、続きを見るのが楽しみです。

3つ目もTVドラマ『結婚できない男』です。第1シリーズを見ましたが、かなり気に入りました！主人公がどのように変化していくかを見ていくのが面白かったです。第2シリーズも見てみたいなと思いましたが、第1シリーズほど楽しめなかったので、途中でやめてしまいました。そう！ここで皆さんにアドバイス：面白くなければ、無理に最後まで読み／見終える必要はありません。
