Tucker's blog-22 Hitachi Talks 9
This past Sunday, the 9th annual Hitachi Talks Speech Contest was held. This was my first time helping with the event, and it was a lot of fun. Like last year, it was held at the Hitachi Civic Center. We were able to have a small audience attend as well, but were careful to maintain masks and distance for everyone. For those who haven't attended before, allow me to share the schedule.
The event started with an introduction and welcome from Nobuko. Afterwards, the speeches started. The first speeches to be presented were from the staff. This year, Nobuko and I presented a speech: Nobuko in English, and me in Japanese. Nobuko's speech was written as a letter to herself in 20 years, and was really well done! The title of my speech was 私の人生を変えたもの.
After the staff presented their speeches, we moved on to the participants. This year, there was only one official entrant into the contest, but we asked guest speakers to present their speeches from last year. All of the speakers did an excellent job, and were able to take questions from the audience in English, as well!
After the speeches, there was a short break and a video presentation on the kid's classes at AEON, followed by a trivia game presented by me! The trivia topic was my home state: Wisconsin! I was able to share lots of interesting facts about where I come from in America. But it seems the questions were a little difficult..! The top 3 received a small gift for their efforts.
With that concluded, it was time for the awards ceremony. Our official participant received a certificate of achievement, as well as the score sheets from the teachers and a coupon for a free 50 minute private lesson. Our guest speakers received a small gift and a coupon for a free 30 minute private lesson.
And that's all for Hitachi Talks! Thank you very much to all of our speakers, who put in a lot of effort preparing and practicing their speeches. If you'd like to know more details on my speech, you'll have to wait for the DVD to be made, or you can ask me in the lobby! Next time, I'll introduce another channel on YouTube Corner. Look forward to it!
