Dear readers,

Today I'd like to talk about some of my favorite English movies. Immersion in your target language is one of the best ways to improve, so if you watch my recommendations you can call it studying! As a warning, some of these movies have blood and violence, so if you're squeamish you may want to pass on those.

（今日は私の好きな映画について話したいと思います。学びたいターゲットの言語漬けにすることは上達する良い方法の一つですから、私がおススメした映画を観たらそれは「勉強した！」と言っていいでしょう。）

First on the list is Shaun of the Dead. This is a British comedy directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It is a parody of the zombie genre and tells the story of Shaun, a salesmen in a dead end job who needs to "sort his life out." There are numerous references to other zombie films, some more subtle than others. It's a fun film to watch and very funny. I highly recommend it.

（一つ目は「ショーン・オブ・ザ・デッド」です。これはイギリスのコメディで、ゾンビジャンルのパロディです。あるセールスマンが将来性のない仕事におり、人生を整理するというものです。とっても面白いので強くお勧めします。）

Next we have another movie by Edgar Wright starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost: Hot Fuzz. This one is a parody of the "buddy cop" sub-genre of police movies. Nicholas Angel is a London supercop that gets transferred out to the country for being too good at his job. He starts to notice strange things around town and eventually people start dying under unusual circumstances! It's up to Sergeant Angle to crack the case.

（次は上記と同じ監督作品の「ホット・ファズ」です。これは警官の友情（相棒）のサブジャンルのパロディです。とても優秀な警官が、優秀ゆえに田舎に左遷されてしまいます。彼は町の異変に気付きはじめ、そのうち人々の変死事件を解明していきます。）

The third movie in the list is also directed by Edgar Wright but is not a British comedy starring Simon Pegg. Baby Driver tells the story of Baby, a (you guessed it) driver who is trying to pay off a debt to a crime lord by working heist jobs. Music plays a big part in the story, in addition to how the movie is shot and edited; each scene is meticulously timed along with the soundtrack, which is full of bangers. I encourage you to watch at least the first chase scene, which is available on YouTube.

（3つ目も同じ監督作品ですが、イギリス喜劇ではありません。「ベイビー・ドライバー」これはベイビーの話で、ある（ここは想像して下さい）車乗りが強盗の債務を清算しようとする話です。物語の中で音楽が重要なパートであり、どのシーンも音楽に合わせて編集されています。最初の追跡のシーンだけでも観て欲しいと思います。）

The three previous movies are rated R for blood, violence, and expletives, but the next movie is fun for the whole family. Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse is about Miles Morales, a young boy living in New York who is bitten by a radioactive spider and develops super powers. Other Spider-people are pulled into the mix through other dimensions, which leads to even more crazy antics. It's a 3D animated film that uses the medium in interesting ways to tell the story. If you're a fan of American comics you'll probably love this movie. It assumes some knowledge of Spider-man to get the most out of watching it, but even non-fans can enjoy it.

As a Disney film this probably needs no introduction, but Wreck-It Ralph is another 3D animated film that I really like. It has countless references to video games that I played growing up, and overall is just a great story. It is marketed in Japan as Sugar Rush despite ostensibly being about Ralph. The sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet, is not nearly as good as the original.
