Good Food and Language Practice?
America is known for a few foods: hot dogs, apple pie, Thanksgiving turkey i.e. But there's one food that stands out above the rest, and that's the hamburger. Since coming to Japan, I've scoured Kiryu and the surrounding cities for a hamburger that reminded me of the ones I could get back home. Many places have hamburgers, some of them really good, but none had quite what I was looking for. Until two weeks ago.
A restaraunt opened up between my apartment and AEON that served burgers. Naturally I went to inspect the place. It's a small bar that also serves burgers and fries during the day. To my surprise, the owner was a Canadian from Toronto. After a few minutes cooking a fresh burger and onion rings, he gave me a burger absolutely dripping with flavor and grease. It was amazing! I haven't had a burger like that since I was young! Not only was it a delicious experience, the owner also sat down across the bar and talked to me while I was eating. He's incredibly nice and down to earth.
We talked for most of my lunch break. Not only does the food get a seal of approval from this American, but I also recommend this place to anyone looking for a chance to practice their English while trying legitimate western soul food.
