Coming to Japan for the first time
When I first came to Japan when I studied abroad in 2018, I was a little nervous because of the huge cultural difference! I am a very direct, talkative, and overly-friendly person. Japanese people are sometimes very shy so it was very different from the way I speak with American people. I was also very scared for using the train system; there are little to no trains in America so it was really strange and intimidating for me to get used to. And of course, to make matters more difficult, I can't read most signs. But surprisingly, I got used to using the train system fairly easily with the help from my phone. I can speak basic Japanese so I was never afraid of asking for help when I needed it. Sometimes people are surprised when I approach them, but they definitely take it as a new experience to speak with a foreigner.
