Fising”について

=============
The state of Maine, where I was born,
is famous for nature.
There are lakes
and rivers everywhere.
  Because
we have so much water, one of
the most popular activities in Maine
is fishing.
I’ve talked to a few students
about fishing in Japan, and it seems
a little different here, so today
I’m going to talk about Maine style fishing.

There is ocean fishing in Maine,
but it’s not really very popular
as a fun activity.
Ocean fishing
is usually only for fishing companies.

When somebody says they are going
fishing on the weekend, they usually
mean fishing in a lake or river.

Going river fishing is as easy as
just packing a lunch and walking
to the river with your fishing pole.

Fly fishing is really popular
in Maine rivers, but I never learned
how to do it.
  I was always too afraid
that I would catch my ear with the hook.

Lakes are the most popular fishing
locations in Maine, and that’s where
I usually went fishing.
You can sit on
dock or even just a rock and fish
in the lake similar to fishing in a river,
but fishing from a boat is best.

Some people go “trolling”, which is
fishing in a motor boat moving
at medium speed around the lake.

Personally, I prefer a more relaxing way
of fishing, the simple canoe or small boat
“float and fish” style.
  “Float” means
the boat isn’t moving, the motor
is turned off, or the oars are put away.

The boat is just floating on the water.
You can find a nice spot on the lake,
then just float there fishing for hours.

My best friend and I used to go out
every weekend, and fish all day.

We never caught any fish, but catching
fish isn’t really the point of going fishing
in Maine.
  It’s a chance to relax,
surrounded by nature, and talk with
a friend.
  We always brought a big
cooler full of snacks, and of course
an even bigger cooler full of beer.

Beer is very important.  If you go fishing
in Maine, you absolutely must bring beer.

When you finally go home as the sun
goes down, you should be quite drunk.

I can’t remember how many times
I have fallen out of the boat because
I drank too much!
  Those are good memories.

Next weekend I’m actually going fishing
in Japan for the first time.

I’m looking forward to seeing
what it’s like.
  I hope there’s beer.
